Venice Streetside (left) is currently being exhibited with the South Carolina Watermedia Society traveling show. This painting won the Daler-Rowney Merchandise Award for the 2007 SCWS exhibit. Go to: fineartsemporium.com for further information and the schedule for the traveling show. Waking up Together, One Way, as well as, Book and a Bath at Harrison's (below) were all paintings from my latest plein air competition at Plein Air Easton in Easton, Maryland. Waking up Together was purchased by Easton's Fine Arts Academy Museum for their permanent collection. Although Book and a Bath at Harrison's is an indoor painting it was done on location inside Harrison's Bookstore in Easton. When the temperatures reach the mid-nineties everyone seeks air conditioning. Waking Up Together was the first painting I did during the week. I was painting about 6:30am just outside the Oxford Boat Yard and the shadows were constantly moving. Finally, One Way depicts Asbury United Methodist Church as the sun fills the streets. The one way sign on the left inspired the title which I thought seemed very philosophical. However one passerby informed me; "There are lots of one way streets in this town." Which I thought was even more philosophical! That's the beauty of plein air painting. When you're finished you have a story to tell and the painting is the icing on the cake!
